SIGNPOSTED WALK – THE CITADEL OF NAMUR

Make your way to the Confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, before tackling the Citadel of Namur. Start by climbing the staircase at the back of the Parliament of Wallonia, formerly the Hospice Saint-Gilles.

You’ll soon arrive at the foot of Jan Fabre’s monumental work “Searching for Utopia”. Next, you can see the fifteen-metre-high Bastion de Sambre, once used to guard the Rampe Verte.

After taking the “Sentier des Amoureux” (Lovers’ Path), you’ll walk alongside the Reine Fabiola Attraction park, a children’s paradise in the summer months.

Along the way, you can visit the Garden of Scents, with its many fragrant plants. You then arrive at the Château de Namur, the hotel and training restaurant of the nearby catering school.

Before starting your descent along the route Merveilleuse, take the opportunity to admire the Belgian Pavilion from the Milan exhibition, recently installed on the Esplanade. Then climb up to the Watchtower for a magnificent view. Before returning to your starting point, you can take one last look at the giant tortoise.
