Poor girl 25 April 2025

A highly committed performance on the issue of pay inequality

In this new production, Julie Lombe plays a whimsical civil servant who invites people to pay a series of colourful taxes that are as compulsory as they are unfair. Pink, red, blue, white taxes… She talks cash about free labour, low wages, gendered spending, economic violence, heritage and morality. As the road to impoverishment takes shape, slam poetry emerges between the counters, questioning a taboo subject: money. With sound by Sara Machine, the play bounces from the MLF to Margaret Thatcher and from Simone de Beauvoir to Beyoncé, in a social tale of financial emancipation that is as ferocious as it is funny.
