Cabin 5 April - 20 July 2025

A contemporary art exhibition in which the works play with the motif of the tree house and its imaginary world.

Most children (and adults who used to be children) have at some time built a tree house, whether it’s in a room in the house made of sheets or planks in the woods. Through the hut, the child creates a play space where he or she can unfold his or her imagination, alone or with others. It’s also a place where children can create their own intimate and secure space, where they can exercise control and define their own rules of play, beyond the reach of adults. Ambivalent, the tree house can be both a comforting refuge and a place of joyful and anxious confrontation with the outside world.

But adults don’t seem to have completely abandoned their need for a cabin. The experience of the world and the constant renegotiation of their relationship with it (which existence almost by its very nature imposes) keep alive for many this need to find a refuge where they can temporarily withdraw from the world, so threatening at times; a space of their own where they can isolate themselves, reflect and meditate, but also, perhaps too rarely, give free rein to the imaginary world of play.
