New Year's concert, City of Namur 21 January 2024 19:30

A tradition well anchored in the Walloon capital, Viennese music will once again be in the spotlight next January during the New Year’s Concert of the City of Namur. After numerous editions at the Royal Theater, the show will be held in the splendid Namur Concert Hall. The musical score will be performed by the Ensemble instrumental de Wallonie and soloist Katia Votano under the direction of Giovanni and Jean-Luc Votano. The Compagnie de Danse du Grand Manège (formerly Ballets du Conservatoire de Namur) will provide the choreographic part of the show.

This year, the concert will once again give pride of place to the Strauss Dynasty with the Vaterländischer March by Johann & Josef Strauss as an overture. The public will also be able to enjoy excerpts from the magnificent Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky and The Carnival of Venice by Paul Agricole Genin in a fairly original version written for the transverse flute and performed on the piccolo flute by Katia Votano. The concert will end with the Radesky March, the famous Viennese military march by Johann Strauss Sr. traditionally performed at the closing of the New Year’s Concert in Vienna.
