Proposed by the Philharmonique de Namur
Liszt takes us into programme music, a compositional process that tells a story. The Dante Symphony refers to the Florentine poet Dante Alighieri and his Divine Comedy. Guided by the Roman poet Virgil, Dante travels through the underworld where he finds his beloved Beatrice. She guides him to purgatory, then to paradise where, in a moment of ecstasy, the narrator catches a glimpse of God.
Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto, made popular by Pierre-Alain Volondat’s performance at the 1983 Queen Elisabeth Competition, will be performed by Julien Libeer, returning to the Grand Manège after his fantastic Bach recital in 2023.
