Towards night’ exhibition 2 April - 3 May 2025

We know Xavier Istasse, the director of Gens du Fleuve, and the sensitivity of his vision of the Meuse, which is so essential to him. Less well known is his taste for the unexpected light of distant nights. Xavier Istasse is a great traveller, and he invites us to different parts of the world.

But what he presents here does not have the documentary character that he has developed in his work as a film-maker. What he shares here are what he calls ‘states of grace’ provoked by the coincidence of the meeting of different lights.

The photographer seizes these ‘opportunities’ of light. He never retouches the images in post-production. The scenes he captures, in which humans are almost always present, are magnified by the ambient light, which produces vivid, strange and beautiful colours. These are atmospheres that intrigue and speak in a different way of an elsewhere.

The exhibition will feature printed images and projections.
