May 13 (8:30 p.m.) at Saint-Loup Church // OPUS 1: The journey of Teodorico Pedrini to the court of the Emperor of China
The Les Menus-Plaisirs du Roy ensemble invites you to discover European music created in China in the 18th century. An old magic lantern will accompany in images the musical journey of Teodorico Pedrini (1671-1746), Italian missionary priest, composer and renowned musician, sent to China in 1702 by the Pope to convert the court of Kangxi. In addition to the compositions illustrating the different stages of Pedrini in his journey to the Middle Empire, the music offered will give pride of place to the compositions of the missionary himself as well as to Chinese entertainment copied by another cleric working at that time in the East. , Joseph-Marie Amiot.
The concert will be preceded by a historical introduction and commented by Hélène Cambier, curator of the Diocesan Museum – Treasure of the Cathedral of Namur.
