Organized as part of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Maredsous Abbey, this exhibition invites you to (re)discover this remarkable abbey, a recognized jewel of neo-Gothic architecture in Belgium, and to meet its community, between past and present.
Through a selection of exceptional objects (drawings, sculptures, silverware, illuminated manuscripts and other more unusual pieces), most of which will leave the abbey for the first time in their history, the exhibition aims to reveal the vision of the founders of the abbey and its brilliant architect, to highlight the revival of a dreamed-of Gothic art from a militant perspective, but also to reveal the sometimes unsuspected aspects of monastic life in Maredsous, between prayer and work.
