Pierre Dandoy - Archives/Saison 1 5 - 29 July 2023

The exhibition retraces the first part of the professional and artistic career of the Namur photographer Pierre Dandoy, while touching on the key moments of his personal life. Covering a period between the 1940s and the beginning of the 1970s, it is based on numerous family archives: correspondence, stories, models and drafts of publications, but also his early works, videos and photographs from the Fonds Pierre Dandoy, kept in the State Archives of Namur.

The exhibition is broken down into just over a dozen themes that show all the richness, diversity and originality of his career: his series of paintings [A]Axial Symmetry, Korea, the Congo, the bohemians, mountaineering, a series of portraits, the Golden Guitar at Ciney, a few celebrities, Expo 58, Namur in the 1960s…

Throughout the summer, two other exhibitions complete this first retrospective devoted to the artist: one at the Delta presents an unpublished series of photographs by Evelyne Axell and other painters who marked the Namur landscape between the 1950s and 70 such as Louis-Marie Londot, Jean-Marie Van Espen, Luc Perot or Jeanne Salentiny. The other organized in the gardens of the Rops Museum brings together photos taken in the Brussels version of the famous cabaret “Le boeuf sur le roof” (Paris).

Images that are reminiscent of the world of a famous painter and engraver from Namur!

Three exhibitions organized 20 years after the disappearance of Pierre Dandoy, whose figure also appears, without its bearded version, on a monumental fresco in Salzinnes, a district of Namur where he lived for a long time.
